Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club  of New Zealand.

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers, commonly referred to as Tollers, have been in New Zealand since about 2000, but have only been in very limited numbers and thus they are a pretty much an unknown breed to  many people here. Most people look with blank amazement when told  the breed’s full name, which happens to be the longest of any dog breed  in the world.

It was not until 2018 that the number of Tollers in New Zealand started to grow. When their numbers got to nearing 50 it was thought that a proper club should be formed, to promote the breed and make more people  aware of the dog that may be smaller in size than the other retrievers,  but more than makes up for it in character, intelligence and high activity.

The inaugural meeting of Toller owners in New Zealand was held on 13  May 2021, at which it was decided to formerly create the club. The aim was set for the club to go live and accept membership registrations from 1 July. Although that was considered a bit ambitious at the time, it has all come to fruition, as you can see.

Getting the club up and running in the time frame did take some doing. I would like to thank those who agreed to form the initial club committee for their effort and support in achieving the aim.

Special mention must be made of those who undertook key tasks:
Mat Pedley, our Treasurer, who managed to get the club’s bank account established in time. This proved to be not an easy task, with all the anti money laundering rules, regulations and requirements now in place.

April Leckie, our Webmaster, for designing and developing the club’s website from scratch. That the website has turned out so good is due  entirely to her vision, imagination and artistic skills. Thanks also to Lauren Dowding for helping April in this task.

No club is complete without a logo, and we are no exception. So, we will be holding a competition for members to design and draw a suitable logo for the club. Details of the competition will be put up on the News page  of the website within the next week.

Again, welcome to the Club’s website. I hope that you will find the information contained in it interesting and informative.

Regards,
GARY HOUGHTON
