NOVA SCOTIA DUCK TOLLING RETRIEVER CLUB ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2022
PRESIDENT’S REPORT

I have pleasure in presenting my President’s Report for the 2022 Annual GeneralMeeting of the club.

The club has made considerable progress since its inception on 1 July 21. We now have 32 memberships, covering 49 members and about 39 Tollers.

One of the highlights of the year was the club being accepted by the Dogs NZ Executive Council as a Recognised Club of Dogs NZ, which makes us the officially recognised specialist club for the NSDTR in NZ. Another was the June 2022 edition of the NZ Dog World magazine including a Breed Feature on Tollers, which was well received and favourably commented on. The latter not only bought our breed to the attention of people and increased their awareness, but also increased the interest in owning one.

Other highlights were two litters of Tollers born to two of the club’s breeders: Jan Voss’s Glynfyre Kennels (5 pups) and Joe and Sahndra Cave’s Kiwicave Kennels (8 pups). While these pups have increased the number of Tollers in NZ, they have not made much of a dent in demand.

Unfortunately, the club was not successful in getting a Club logo designed and finalised. The committee did not consider that the results of the competition that was held really produced a suitable design. A subsequent attempt to have a design developed by a graphic designer was also not successful. The committee is revisiting the matter and it is hoped that a logo will be selected in the near future.

A number of our club members achieved success in various dog activities during the year: confirmation, obedience, agility and tracking. Others have gained awards with Dog Tricks under Do More With Your Dog (DMWYD). All these activities and results prove the versatility of our breed. Congratulations to all owners who have entered their dog in shows and trials during the year.

With the popularity of our breed increasing, I think that it is important for us to try and maintain the integrity of the breed as much as humanly possible. I dread to think of there being Tolloodles or Tollerpoos running around.

Finally, thanks to those who help get the club off the ground and form the inaugural committee: Michelle Lynch, Kim Jones, Mat Pedley, Liv Morris, April Leckie, Joe Cave, Abi Richmond, Jan Voss. Special mention must be made of April Leckie, who has been instrumental in organising the club’s website – as well as looking after photo competitions; and Mat Pedley, who has sorted out the club’s finances – as well as becoming the father of twin girls in the year.

May the club continue to grow and our breed develop over the next year.
